About Nicky
I am a passionate and experienced Maths tutor with a degree in Mathematics and Statistics and a Master’s degree, together with many years of experience teaching Mathematics up to A Level.
Over the years, I have worked with students of different abilities and have developed a patient and supportive approach to teaching. I understand that Maths can sometimes feel challenging or overwhelming, and my aim is to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and building their confidence.
I believe that every student has the ability to improve with the right support. Rather than simply teaching students how to memorise formulas and methods, I focus on helping them understand the mathematics behind the questions. I adapt my teaching to suit each student's individual needs and work at a pace that allows them to develop a strong understanding of the subject.
I also have experience marking examination papers, which has given me a valuable insight into exam requirements and the skills students need to demonstrate in order to achieve the marks they are capable of. I use this experience to help students develop effective exam techniques, recognise common mistakes and approach questions with greater confidence.
Whether a student is struggling with a particular topic, preparing for their GCSE exams or aiming to achieve the highest possible grade, I provide professional, personalised and encouraging tuition. My goal is not only to help students improve their Maths, but also to leave each lesson feeling more confident in their own ability.

Experienced GCSE Maths Tutor – Build Confidence, Understanding & Exam Success
I am an experienced and enthusiastic Maths tutor with a degree in Mathematics and Statistics and a Master’s degree, as well as many years of experience teaching Mathematics up to A Level. I have also marked examination papers, giving me valuable insight into how exam questions are assessed and what students need to demonstrate to gain the marks they deserve.
My aim is to make Maths clear, understandable and less intimidating. Every student is different, so I tailor lessons to their individual ability, learning style and goals.
I start by identifying areas of strength and topics that need improvement. I then break challenging concepts down into manageable steps, using clear explanations, worked examples and plenty of guided practice. Once a student is confident, I encourage them to tackle questions independently and develop the problem-solving skills needed for GCSE success.
As an experienced examiner, I also place a strong emphasis on exam technique. I can help students understand exactly what exam questions are asking, how to structure their answers, show sufficient working, avoid common mistakes and maximise the marks available.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes and are structured around the student's needs. Depending on the topic, a lesson may include:
Reviewing previous learning and addressing any difficulties
Explaining new concepts in a simple and accessible way
Working through examples together
Practising GCSE-style questions
Developing problem-solving and exam techniques
Identifying and correcting common mistakes
Recapping key points at the end of the lesson
I believe that students learn best when they understand why something works rather than simply memorising a method.
I teach GCSE Maths students at both Foundation and Higher level. Lessons are suitable for students who:
