About Susanna

- What kind of experience do you have? I've been tutoring maths privately for the last 10 years, mainly at A level but also covering everything from year 7 to STEP and MAT preparation. By listening carefully to each student I help them progress from where they are, filling in gaps and practising skills so they really understand the material, gain in confidence and can show their very best in their exams. Prior to tutoring privately, I taught maths full time at secondary schools for 5 years, at The Perse School, Cambridge, King Henry VIII School, Coventry and Phillips Exeter Academy, New Hampshire. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? Yes.

About the lesson

I am a qualified and experienced maths teacher with a maths degree from Cambridge. When tutoring I build on what you do know, and help you to overcome anxiety. My students find me encouraging, and achieve excellent results. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach maths through the whole secondary school curriculum. At A level I teach Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Mathematics modules as well as Core/Pure. I also tutor students preparing for STEP and MAT papers. - Tell me about your qualifications. BA, MA in Mathematics (University of Cambridge) - 2.1 - scholarship at Trinity Hall PGCE in Mathematics teaching at secondary level (University of Cambridge) MSc in Management Science & Operational Research (Warwick Business School) - distinction - How much do you charge? £70/hour for A level, GCSE, 13+, scholarship examinations etc. STEP preparation please enquire. - Where do you teach? Online, or at home in Battersea - near Clapham Junction station, within easy reach of Clapham, Balham, Chelsea, Wandsworth, Brixton, Southfields, Putney, Wimbledon and the rest of SW London. This way I have all my teaching materials to hand. - When are you available? Any day, any time except Sunday mornings. - Which ages and levels do you teach? 11-18, any level - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? A level Maths, Further Maths and Statistics, IB, GCSE, IGCSE, 13+, 13+ scholarship - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. I use Skype or Zoom. We agree in advance a rough outline of what material we'll cover, so every valuable minute is focused on your progress. - Do you have a personal message for students? My students include many who don't like to ask too many questions in front of their friends in class, and some who just need extra one to one attention. Many are girls who benefit from having a woman role model who read Maths at Cambridge. I focus on you and what you understand, and go at your speed of learning. You are the one who needs to learn, so I will give you the tools to do that. I will not rush faster than you are ready to go, and I will not dictate answers that you don't understand - neither of those will help you learn.

Many thanks for your help with Jamie last week and at Easter.
His AS results in maths were great – he got 100% in C1, C3, FP1 and M1 and 597/600 overall which is pretty amazing and a testament to his (and your) hard work.

Susanna was a teacher at the school where I am head of department from 1993-1996.
She is an excellent mathematician with a superb degree from Cambridge University who also proved to be a natural teacher. She joined an all-male department and had no difficulty in developing an efficient discipline within the classroom. This allowed pupils of both sexes to benefit from her deep subject knowledge. Susanna was a great loss to the Department when she left. Moreover, she was always superbly organised in school.
