About Matthew
I am currently studying Mathematics at the University of Leeds and I am looking to tutor younger students in GCSE or A-Level Mathematics. I achieved a grade 9 in my Mathematics GCSE and an A* in my Mathematics A-Level. I have always had a passion for Mathematics and problem-solving, everything about it makes me more eager to learn more about how the numbers work and what particular outcomes actually mean in numerical values. I have had plenty of experience in helping my peers with Mathematics, some of which I have 1 on 1 tutored myself and they have come out with far improved results. I have also assisted in Mathematics lessons with GCSE students whilst studying A-Level Maths in sixth form and got many compliments on my understanding and explanations of problems and often would get told that I was better at explaining the problems than the teacher.

I offer lesson periods of duration 1 or 2 hours and during this time I will start off with past papers and help the student work through problems they find particularly challenging. As a result of a session of going through a past paper the next session will follow up with questions on specific topics in these papers that I found the student struggled on to target their weak points, all questions given I have already gone through myself to ensure I am familiar with every question I give and can provide useful input on the question, I also where possible include all alternative methods as everyone is different and may not understand a certain method as much as another whether more conventional or not. After I feel the student is more confident with a topic they previously were not comfortable with I will again try find more weak areas and come back with more specialised questions and often incorporate techniques learnt from the past struggles to ensure the student is fully comfortable in that area and also to ensure what is learnt is reviewed and not forgotten.

Matthew was in my year at college and he tutored me for maths from the end of year 12 until exam season, pulling my grade from a C to an A! He takes his time explaining and writes down all the steps, often with different methods if needed to help understand the question from different perspectives. He is also very calm and kind, his attitude to teaching shows the passion he has for maths and helping other people understand it. I cannot recommend him enough!
