About Ruby
Hi! I’m Ruby, a recent high school graduate who will be attending the University of Texas at Austin this fall. I’ve spent the past few years tutoring students in math from kindergarten through 10th grade, helping them go from feeling frustrated and stuck to confident and capable. As someone who has recently been through the same courses, I understand how overwhelming math can feel—but I also know how to explain it in a way that finally clicks. My approach is patient, encouraging, and always tailored to each student’s unique learning style. I take my role seriously and am committed to creating a safe, focused, and supportive environment where students can grow at their own pace. As a tutor, I believe that understanding comes before memorization. My goal is to make sure students truly grasp the “why” behind what they’re learning so they can apply it with confidence—even when the problem looks different. My teaching method involves breaking concepts down into simple, relatable steps. I use real-life examples whenever possible to make math feel less abstract and more approachable. I also ask a lot of guiding questions to encourage independent thinking rather than just giving the answer. A typical lesson starts with a quick review of what the student already knows or struggles with, followed by a focused explanation of the topic we're tackling. We’ll then work through a few examples together, moving toward the student solving problems independently while I support and correct as needed. At the end, we review key takeaways and plan what to work on next. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with students because I’m a student too—I know what it's like to feel stuck or overwhelmed. I’m patient, I never rush the process, and I celebrate small wins to build confidence along the way. My lessons are designed for students from kindergarten through 10th grade.
