About Jen
I am a two-time graduate of Western Kentucky University. I earned a bachelors in elementary education and a masters in special education. I am dual certified in the state of Kentucky for P-12 special education and K-5 elementary/general education. My specialties are working one on one or in small groups and assessment/analysis of data. I use data to make instructional decisions on an individual level.
I have personal interests in literacy intervention, ADHD, and have a new-found interest in history as I’ve navigated through my family history. I do not consider myself left- or right-brained, as I love everything from technology to the arts.

I specialize in individualized plans and differentiated instruction. I use research backed technology to supplement direct instruction.
A typical lesson will have a clear 3-part (minimum) structure. The layout will be dependent on prerequisite knowledge of the skill or instructional focus. For example, if a student has limited or no prior knowledge of a skill (which I would determine based on initial assessments) I would review the prior knowledge necessary in their success for the subsequent skill(s). This is usually a brief warm-up of a few minutes. Next, I would provide direct instruction in the new skill. (The "I Do.." phase.) Following instruction and modeling of the skill, we would complete an example together. (The "We Do…" phase) Then, the student would try it independently. (The "You Do…" phase). Feedback and a brief recap would close out the lesson.
I always like to include real world examples when possible and I assess progress continuously through observation,
questioning, and assessments that allow a student to best show understanding of the skill. This may include traditional written assessments which are adapted to be appropriate for the individual student, but there will be multiple assessment techniques utilized, as all students “show their work” best in different ways.

Details
Prices are general guidelines and could vary somewhat depending on the circumstances as each child is unique. These are subject to change at any time, but I will provide you with the new pricing information before a session takes place at the new rate. I am offering my first lesson free of charge, which may be longer or shorter than subsequent lessons. This will be an opportunity to get to know the student/family, administer initial assessments, and determine if additional assessments are needed. (See my profile for more detail on the types of assessments I use and my typical lesson layout.) These initial sessions will typically range from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the needs of the student and the data collection needed in order to prepare lessons that are appropriately challenging for each individual.
Discounts for multiple students in the same household can be discussed and the amount of the discount will depend on the time and resources needed to help them make progress. Oftentimes, activities can be designed for working with more than one student at a time, while still addressing individual needs, however, there will be times when 1-1 is necessary to be effective. If servicing multiple students in one household, assessment/instruction will most likely need to be a combination of small group and 1-1.
I have experience with learning and behavior disorders and as an assistant in multiple/severe disabilities, so I am definitely open to working with children (or adults) on most all levels of ability. I am honest and an advocate at heart, so I will let you know if I feel that I can or cannot provide an appropriate and effective level of support.
Please know that any policies and/or pricing could change at any time, but notice will be provided prior to implementation of any changes.
