About Lorne
Having spent five years working outside of education, I have seen how studying history provides essential skills for young people entering further education and the world of work. Skills such as independent thinking, criticality and the ability to present are all developed through the study of history and form the backbone of the skills I intend to impart to students.
I am a dedicated and approachable History tutor currently completing a Master’s degree at the University of Glasgow, where I am working at a distinction level. I have a strong academic background in historical research, writing, and analysis, which I bring into my tutoring.
I am preparing to undertake a PGDE in Secondary History and am passionate about helping students develop both their subject knowledge and exam skills. I pride myself on being reliable, well-organised, and able to explain complex ideas in a clear and engaging way.

My tutoring approach is tailored to each student with the aim of strengthening key exam skills such as essay writing, source analysis, and building clear, well-supported arguments.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes and involve a mix of content review, exam practice, and targeted feedback to help students quickly build confidence and style in their writing.
I am currently completing a Master’s degree in History at the University of Glasgow, where I am working at a distinction level, and I am preparing to undertake a PGDE in Secondary History.
I tutor National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher, GCSE, and A-level students, and adapt my teaching to suit a range of abilities.
