About Tharuna
Hiya! I’m a Psychology graduate with a triple-major Bachelor’s degree in English, Psychology and Communication/Media, as well as a Master’s degree in Mental Health: Psychological Therapies from Queen Mary University of London.
I've always loved psychology. It fascinates me that no two people are alike, and therefore no two cases are exactly the same. I love that there is no “zero point”. There is just change and how people adapt to change.
My goal as a tutor is to take what can sometimes feel like a dry, theory-heavy subject and bring it to life through real-world cases, examples and stories. Whether we are discussing a psychological disorder, a theory, a research study or a piece of Psychology’s history, I want students to understand the people and experiences behind the concepts, rather than simply memorizing them for an exam.
My academic background has given me experience across psychological theory, psychotherapeutic approaches, behavioral sciences, mental health and research methods. I have worked with both qualitative and quantitative research, primary data collection, survey administration, statistical analysis and interpretation, and completed a systematic review dissertation during my Master’s degree.
I also have practical experience in mental-health support, including crisis support and structured risk assessment. This has given me an appreciation of how psychological concepts can translate from textbooks into real-world situations.
What I enjoy most about tutoring is that moment when a student goes from “this is so boring” to “Oh, I get it now!”
Outside of Psychology, I’m an avid reader and love traveling, food, dogs and crocheting. I speak Hindi and Kannada fluently and have intermediate proficiency in Tamil, Marathi and Japanese.
I want my lessons to be a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, challenging ideas and developing their own understanding of Psychology.

My approach to tutoring Psychology is structured, engaging and tailored to each student’s level and goals. I aim to make complex psychological theories and concepts easier to understand by breaking them down into clear explanations, real-world examples and memorable frameworks.
I use a combination of discussion, guided questioning, diagrams, practical examples, active recall and practice questions to help students move beyond memorising content and develop a genuine understanding of Psychology. For essay-based subjects, I focus on building clear arguments, evaluating evidence, structuring answers and applying psychological theories and research effectively.
I can also support students with research methods, statistics, psychological testing, academic writing and dissertation or research-project development. My own academic experience includes quantitative and qualitative research, primary data collection, survey administration, statistical analysis and interpretation, as well as completing a systematic review dissertation.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although I am happy to adapt the length depending on the student's age, level and requirements.
I can teach secondary school, GCSE/O-Level equivalent, A-Level/IB-equivalent and undergraduate Psychology students. I am particularly happy to work with students who want help understanding difficult concepts, preparing for examinations, improving Psychology essays or developing their research and academic-writing skills.
