About Pooja
I grew up with a genuine love for numbers and problem-solving, and that passion has only grown through my academic and professional journey. I completed my Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology with a CGPA of 9.16/10, finishing as University Rank 2 out of my entire graduating cohort. I am currently completing a Master of Applied Data Science at the University of Canterbury, where I also mentor fellow students through the Women in Technology Society.
Before moving to New Zealand, I spent four years tutoring children aged 7–15 in Hyderabad, India. Those years taught me something no qualification can: that a student who feels safe to say "I don't understand" learns twice as fast as one who doesn't. I work hard to create that environment in every session — patient, encouraging, and judgment-free.
I also bring a professional background in EdTech, having built assessment and learning platforms used by thousands of university students. That experience gave me deep insight into how students engage with difficult material — and where they tend to get stuck.
I take punctuality, preparation, and consistency seriously. Parents can expect regular updates on their child's progress, and students can expect a tutor who shows up fully prepared every single time.

I'm Pooja, a Master of Applied Data Science student at the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Engineering (Information Technology) — CGPA 9.16/10, University Rank 2. I have four years of private tutoring experience with students aged 7–15 across Maths, Science, and English, and I know from experience that every student learns differently.
My approach is simple: I don't just re-explain what the teacher already said. I find exactly where your understanding breaks down and rebuild from there — patiently, clearly, and at your pace. I use real examples, targeted practice exercises, and regular progress checks so both students and parents can see genuine improvement over time.
I'm currently available to tutor:
Mathematics (including Calculus and Statistics) — NCEA Levels 1–3
Statistics & Data — from school level through to early university
Chemistry — NCEA Levels 1–3
Digital Technology / Computer Science — NCEA Levels 1–3
Primary school Maths and Science — Years 1–8
Python - beginner to advance, any age accepted
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, held online or in person at a convenient Christchurch location such as a library. I'm available on weekday evenings and weekends, with increased availability during UC holiday periods.
Whether your child is trying to pass, aiming for Merit, or pushing for Excellence — I'll help them get there.

I had worked with Pooja for two years , and the difference she has made to my maths results is something I honestly didn't think was possible.
When I first started, I was sitting at a GPA of 7 and really struggling to keep up in Year 10 Maths. I didn't hate the subject, I just couldn't get things to click no matter how hard I tried in class. A friend suggested I try tutoring, and that's how I found Pooja.
From the very first session, she was different to what I expected. She didn't just go through the textbook with me — she actually figured out exactly where my understanding was falling apart and worked from there. She was incredibly patient, never made me feel stupid for asking the same question twice, and always found a different way to explain something if the first way didn't land.
Two years later, I'm sitting at a GPA of 10 and achieved Merit in my assessments. I genuinely couldn't have done that without her. She believed I could get there before I did, and that made a huge difference.
If you're a student who's feeling stuck or just wants to push for better results, I can't recommend Pooja enough. She knows her stuff, she genuinely cares, and she shows up prepared every single time.See more recommendations
