About Andrew

Hi, I’m Andrew. I’ve just finished my 3rd year studying Physics at the University of Oxford and have been tutoring throughout my degree, although I am new superprof.

I have tutored from pre-GCSE through to A-levels, and helped students with university admissions tests in maths and physics. I believe that good tutoring can really clarify a student's thinking. It is too easy to spend hours confused about a certain topic due to a minor misunderstanding. And if many of these misunderstandings combine it can feel like a subject is too hard. However the inverse is also true, after resolving only a few of these confusions you can quickly make progress and begin to feel on top of the course.

This remains true at all levels of study but the access to someone able to answer your questions becomes increasingly rare. That’s where having spent years thinking deeply about mathematics and physics I believe I am well placed to help students. I have had to work hard to achieve my grades and university place so I hope I can understand where you are struggling whilst having the expertise to assist you.

Specifically I am happy to cover all highschool courses in maths and physics and the corresponding university entrance exams. I have prepared mock interviews for university and would be happy to do so again. And I would also be keen to tutor students in between school and university or in the earlier years of a physics degree.

About the lesson

I like to think I am patient and revel in coming up with novel explanations to help students understand difficult topics .

My particular approach to tutoring is:

- There is no great secret to achievement in STEM, with enough time and practice you can succeed.
- The value of tutoring is that it can save a huge amount of time for the student clarifying something that would otherwise take many hours on their own.
- Working through (many) problems is the best way to build familiarity, confidence and hence achieve the top grades.

For students considering maths and physics degrees that require admissions tests and interviews I would be very happy to design mock tests and interviews to give you the best chance of success. You can see such a mock interview I conducted for my Oxford college here:
