About Matty

I'm Matty, a First-Class Mechanical Engineering graduate (Master's) from the University of Nottingham. Maths has been at the centre of everything that I have studied, starting from my A-levels where I got 4 A*s, including Maths and Further Maths. At university, the maths stopped being exam questions and turned into real things, like analysing stresses, designing air-powered motors, and carrying out feasibility studies.

I'm also learning Arabic at the moment, which keeps me honest about what it's like to be a beginner. I know that being stuck, getting things wrong, and needing something to be explained twice are all part of the learning process, and I want my lessons to be a place where all of these things are completely fine.

You can expect patience, clear explanations, well-planned lessons that start on time, and regular updates.

How I teach:
We will start with a relaxed lesson to find out what parts of maths are going well for you, and also find out where the gaps are. After that, we will have lessons built around you and the topics we should focus on. Also, in my experience, real understanding works better than a method that works, especially when under exam pressure, so I will focus on that. Once we feel like the understanding is there, we will move onto learning what the examiners expect to see in the mark scheme via exam-style questions and past papers.

Lessons:
All lessons are online, and we will use a shared whiteboard to work through problems together. Lessons are usually 60 minutes, which I find is ample to cover a topic properly. However, longer lessons are available, especially during A-Level exam prep. After each lesson, I will provide a short summary on what was covered, and what to practise next so that your parents can follow your progress.

Who it's for:
GCSE maths (Foundation and Higher) and A-level maths, for students aged 14 to 18, plus anyone resitting. I will tailor to any exam board you are sitting as well.
