As a current digital and print magazine editor, event moderator, and communications specialist, I know just how important it is to package a message effectively. Furthermore, I know how valuable it is to apply them beyond schooling and into a career. I want to help you gain these skills and techniques for your future, not just your schooling. Whether standing in front of a crowd and giving a speech, interviewing someone, or writing a paper, most effectively, I know my background can help support you and refine your skills and natural talents, I look forward to working with you!

About the lesson

This is for high school students focused on getting better at writing or presentation skills. My teaching method involves showing by doing. First, I introduce an "argument" (thesis) or creative writing tool. Then, we work through the outline, or you write freely for a few minutes. This will all depend on your goals. We'll always start from the outline by asking questions when focusing on argument-based writing. For example, what should the introduction look like? How can we connect with our reader as quickly as possible? Where do you put the lead for the argument? We will ask these questions to help you understand how to write effectively and build your writing muscle! If you need help with presentation prep, I'm happy to assist you. I will focus more on how to give the presentation, aka how to stand in front of a group of people and command their attention effectively. If you're nervous or have stage fright, I understand, I will do my best to help you manage it. If you need direct help with an assignment, we'll apply these same techniques more deliberately. We will review each lesson afterward, and if that means assigning some exercises, then that's exactly what we'll do. Writing is a muscle, and like building any muscle, it's about understanding where we're starting and slowly increasing load to build strength. My degrees are all in strategic communications, so we will work together to ensure that your message is relayed as effectively as possible.
