About Luke

I am a 4th year medical student at the University of Birmingham. I understand learning can sometimes be challenging and frustrating and recognise the value in finding the right tutor. I have always had an interest in biology and tutoring allows me to share my enthusiasm with students who may be finding topics difficult. I have been involved in tutoring throughout my time in education having taught a wide variety of subjects at all levels and have developed my tutoring abilities through these opportunities. I particularly have lots of experience tutoring having taught the new 9-1 GCSE STEM and as a peer mentor to struggling students so know the value that 1-to-1 help can have. I have a real passion for teaching and helping those aspiring to go into medicine and even set up my school's first medical society as felt students didn’t have the best support. With my time with MyTutor I have gained over 100 hours of tutoring experience. This has allowed me to teach a wide range of students from those needing a confidence boost in KS3 to students aiming for A* at A-level to allow them to attend their university of choice. I have developed my approach to tutoring that is personalised to the student whilst relying on scaffolding and incremental learning to consolidate previous lessons.

About the lesson

I understand that each student is an individual and therefore I deliver a tailored approach to each individual. Every student is unique, with their own strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. Recognising this, my approach to tutoring revolves around personalised instruction. I take the time to assess each student's learning style, goals, and challenges. By understanding their specific needs, I tailor my teaching methods to ensure optimal comprehension and engagement. I believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes confidence and academic growth. I have been able to develop my personalised approach after working with lots of previous students and asking for feedback on my sessions so I can improve my lessons. My sessions involve lots of practice questions which is one of the best methods for consolidating knowledge and building confidence and improving exam technique to allow students to achieve their targets. I also understand learning can sometimes be challenging and frustrating, particularly when encountering complex concepts. As a tutor, I approach these situations with patience and empathy. I understand that every student has their own pace of learning and may require additional support. By fostering a positive and encouraging atmosphere, I motivate my students to overcome obstacles and strive for excellence. I celebrate their achievements, no matter how small, to boost their confidence and maintain their motivation for biology.
