About Ben

I've been a working musician and drum/percussion teacher for 10+ years. This covers 1 to 1 lessons, lectures and group teaching scenarios, including a wide array of ages and all levels from beginners to advanced levels.

I believe it's important to maintain a fun and positive atmosphere throughout all lessons and gearing the material to whatever the client is looking for. Adult clients for e.g. may understandably have less time to practise, lending itself to teaching material which makes playing drums satisfying and rewarding at a quick rate.

About the lesson

So you want to make people smile & dance through rhythm? Who wouldn't! Having graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2015, I've worked consistently as a recording & performing musician with top international jazz & groove artists such as Alfa Mist, Mulatu Astatke, Judi Jackson, Rebecca Ferguson, Waaju, Dizraeli and many more, and had the pleasure to perform extensively across all continents. I feel so lucky to have had these opportunities, and I want you to learn the skills it takes to do the same...

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Based on my deep love and knowledge of many groove styles, my teaching is grounded in groove and improvisation. You'll be grooving from day 1 as well as learning technique, a variety of musical styles and improvisation.

- How much do you charge?

£40/ 1 hour
£35/ 45 mins
£30/ 30 mins

- Where do you teach?

- Face to Face - You're welcome to come to my place in North London which has everything we need and I also have the equipment to record you to a high level which could be a great tool for learning. Alternatively, I may be able to travel to you if its viable.
- Online is also available if needed

- When are you available?

I'm very flexible with my hours. I'd prefer 11-5 on weekdays but I appreciate this might not suit everyone.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I have much experience teaching students of all levels and ages

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

Generally, I consider instrumental teaching much more effective when not simply using grade books, at least initially. My approach gives a considerably more rounded, extensive style of learning. Having said that, once a student is ready to take grades, then I encourage this. This approach has lead to consistently high scores when the grades are then taken. In the past, I have had a number of students work through drum grade books as well as progress to music conservatoire.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

Teaching via Zoom/Skype etc is also available and I have all necessary equipment to make this as easy as possible.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

For me, there's nothing more fulfilling than the role of playing drums in a band. I've done it since the age of 8 and it's always been my passion and I'd love to pass that passion on to you. Thanks for reading!
