About Jonathan
My name is Jonathan, and I am a recent History Graduate from the University of Exeter. If there is one thing university has taught me it's that I am a lot more engaged with a topic if it has elements that mean something to me. I very much believe in learning from past mistakes, and what is history but not that? History is much as the present than it is the past, and students should be allowed to recognise how it relates to them individually. Studying History should not feel like listing off past events or talking about centuries-old achievements. I know very well how overwhelming the GCSE syllabus can be, and how hard it is to engage with subjects that feel so distant and irrelevant to you. As your tutor, I will endeavour to help equip you with the understanding necessary for History to be an engaging part of your education, and not a daunting obstacle to avoid.

Hour-long lessons consist of a delving into the GCSE History syllabus and honing in on the specifications to set clear goals for the student. Too often students are overwhelmed by the broadness of humanities, thus it is highly beneficial to make it clear to them what the markers want to see. I want my tutees to not be afraid to ask questions, and I would always endeavour to relate the subjects to situations more familiar to them. The events of history may seem distant and irrelevant (especially to teenagers), but through the use of analogies personal to my students, it will be much easier to understand. I am eager to connect with students and delve into so many important topics with them!
