I am a patient and engaging Literacy Specialist with a Master of Education in Literacy, currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Linguistics. I have been working with Deaf students and teachers in schools for the Deaf since 2019, giving me extensive experience supporting language, communication, and literacy development in Deaf learners.
My teaching approach is individualized, interactive, and creative. I adapt my teaching strategies, activities, and resources to each student's age, level, strengths, areas for development, and learning needs. My lessons focus on developing reading, comprehension, vocabulary, and communication skills while also building confidence and independence.
I use a variety of creative, visual, and multisensory resources to make learning meaningful and engaging. For Deaf students, Jamaican Sign Language (JSL) is my primary language of instruction, supported by strong visual resources to provide additional access to learning and reinforce literacy concepts.
Lessons are typically 45–60 minutes, depending on the student's age, level, and individual needs. I primarily work with primary-school-aged children, including students who need additional support with reading and comprehension, as well as Deaf students who benefit from literacy instruction through JSL.
My goal is not simply to help students to complete schoolwork. I want students to understand what they are learning, develop confidence in their abilities, and become more capable and independent readers and learners.
I welcome both hearing and Deaf students and strive to create a supportive learning environment where every child can participate, communicate, and succeed.
