About Julio Rolando

I am a recent graduate from the University of Toronto. I obtained my Honors Bachelor of Arts with Distinction with a major in Linguistics and a double minor in Spanish and French. In my linguistics program, I focused on Second Language Acquisition and Second Language Pedagogy. Through these courses, I learned theories that improved my teaching methodologies. In my Spanish program, I achieved high marks (A) in both the 300 and 400-level Spanish Language courses which focused on the grammar of Spanish. In high school, where my Spanish Language journey began, I learned through the methodology that I teach with today, TPRS. I believe in its efficacy and usefulness, especially compared with the more traditional methods that are commonly used. I have only learned Spanish through this methodology and four languages through the traditional method. I can attest to the fact that not only does the TPRS method better prepare you for real life situations, but that it is less demanding on its students. When I reached my senior year of high school, I took IB Spanish SL, where I achieved a 7. I am familiar with the system and what is required to obtain a high mark in the course. All of my IB students that I have tutored in the past five years have earned, at the minimum, a 6 as their final mark. I have a lot of experience in language learning and teaching. About the lesson

For those who are interested in learning Spanish: - I use a communicative method called Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling - This methodology uses storytelling and comprehensive input to build your Spanish language level - No need to memorize grammar or vocabulary! - My lessons are meant to provide Spanish that favors communication over perfection - You will make mistakes, but that is ok! - Recommended at least 4 hours a week. Dedication to time is a very crucial part of this methodology For those who are looking for a tutor for school, especially IB Spanish: - I use a more traditional method that encompasses grammar and vocabulary - I can assist in homework or assignments - For IB students, I recommend at least two hours a week - For non-IB students, I recommend at least one hour a week
