About Connor

I am a lifelong Spanish speaker with proud Spanish roots, and a passion to teach others.
I hold an AQA A* Level 2 Qualification in Spanish, hold a C1 Busuu certificate, and have a lifelong experience with this language.
I also hold a bronze and silver DofE award, which is recognised for its focus on community values as well as perseverance, have previously volunteered and taught in Ugandan schools as part of a secondary school partnership program; and previously took part in weekly primary school tutoring sessions where I taught maths to SATs (Year 6) students and am presently doing do to Year 11 students.
With regard to SEND, I am also a certified young carer with persons in my own family with SEND, so can reliably support.

About the lesson

What happens during your lessons?
Before your first lesson, I will reserve a phone call to explain the tutoring process and to acquaint myself with you and your child, so we are able to make a specific learning plan and break the ice.
Lessons are 1 hour in length, (with the first ever 30 minutes being free), and consist of the following:
5 minutes – Greeting and reflection on previous session.
15 minutes – Introduction of new topic.
20 minutes – Work related to new topic.
10 minutes – Roleplay (speaking practice).
10 minutes – Conclusion (activity based).

I am flexible with homework because I understand it is not always a desirable option to fit into other commitments; however, if you so wish, I typically only set activities that involve reading or listening.

Lessons also revolve around three qualities that I promise to deliver: commitment, resolution and enthusiasm. Here is how each are delivered:

Commitment: I will always be patient and supportive with your child, helping them whenever they feel intimidated or lost, and exulting their successes. For example, translating a passage of a Spanish book.

Resolution: I will encourage your child to feel confident with tackling the unknown when it comes to Spanish, teaching them to appreciate the value of curiosity. For example, having a slow conversation with them in Spanish.

Enthusiasm: I will also tailor enjoyment to my lessons as well. For example, using the interactive learning games on the platform Linguascope.

What levels do you teach at?
I teach A1 (elementary) to B2 (upper intermediate), which would constitute between around 6 to 12 years of age.
