About Rhonda
I have been a classroom teacher in both general education and special education. I have worked with students ages 5 to 18 and with young adults learning to become teachers. I have been a Title I Reading teacher, a sixth grade teacher, a kindergarten teacher, a resource room teacher, and a detention center teacher. I was a Dean of Students at a local residential school for students experiencing mental health issues, and I have been an elementary Principal in both a rural setting and an urban setting. I also have seven years of experience as a college professor, and I have served as a program consultant at the Iowa Department of Education. I am certified to teach students K-9 with endorsements in mental disabilities and reading disabilities. I am also a Certified LETRS trainer for teachers and have received Explicit Instruction training. I very much enjoy helping others understand what they are learning.

Everyone can learn to read with the right instruction. Learning to crack the code of our language is essential...English is a deep language meaning we have several vowel sounds spelled in multiple ways, but once you know the basic rules, you will learn to enjoy reading with accuracy and fluency. Grammar is important in reading and writing as is spelling. Building a large listening vocabulary will assist you in becoming a better writer and reader, and improving your spelling skills will make reading and writing so much easier. Learning seven simple rules for decoding multisyllable words will open up a whole new world of reading and writing. Experiencing success is the key to continued learning and faster growth and improvement. I look forward to working with you!!
