About Waseem

I worked as a part-time teaching assistant in 2013 at the electrical and control engineering department in AASTMT till I was recommended to be a full-time teaching assistant in 2016 at Electrical Marine Engineering Technology Department at the same university. My teaching method is practical, I like to show the students how the things work by simulation tools or practically if it is possible. Consequently, I have been involved in a group of simultaneous activities that included:
1. Teaching more than 12 courses for the undergraduate students in different fields of electrical engineering (power/control/machines).
2. Technical operator/supervisor/teacher in (automatic control laboratory), (power system laboratory), (electric machines laboratory) and (Microprocessor based laboratory), which provided me with practical experience in areas such as microprocessor coding, communication protocols, power system control, system automation.
3. Being an Academic advisor for undergraduate students, especially in final year projects. Usually, I taught a maximum of 25 students in every class.

Furthermore, I'm interested in teaching the Bachelor degree and the Master students. I can teach using a lot of software tools such as: • Simulation tools: Matlab- ORCAD(PSpice) -Proteus • Coding Tools: Arduino- Code Composer –Code version –AVR Studio. • Drawing Tools: Eagle- AutoCAD-KiCAD-Microsoft Visio. • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in education when I noticed how powerful it felt to help someone finally understand something they had struggled with. Even before I was officially “teaching,” I enjoyed simplifying complex topics and guiding others through them.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I specialize in language and communication—helping students express themselves clearly, whether in writing or conversation. I especially enjoy topics that involve creativity, critical thinking, or storytelling. The only thing I like slightly less is pure rote memorization—I prefer to teach why, not just what.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I was inspired by teachers who made learning feel like a conversation rather than a lecture. The ones who didn’t just correct mistakes but encouraged curiosity and independence. Their empathy and enthusiasm taught me that great teaching is equal parts knowledge and kindness.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, adaptability, and the ability to truly listen. A good tutor doesn’t just teach—they diagnose how a student thinks, identify gaps, and tailor explanations accordingly. Encouragement is just as important as expertise.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I once worked with a student who believed they were “bad at writing.” Instead of focusing on grammar rules, I asked them to talk about their favorite hobby. Their passion flowed effortlessly. I turned their spoken words into written form and showed them: “This is your writing.” Their confidence flipped instantly—proof that sometimes the skill is there, it just needs the right doorway.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One ongoing challenge is overcoming students' fear of failure. Many approach learning defensively, expecting judgment. Creating a safe space where mistakes are celebrated rather than feared is essential—but it takes time and trust.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is clarity—whether that’s teaching, writing, or explaining complex topics in a simple way. I love the moment when someone says, “Ohhh, now I get it!” That spark is addictive.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I’d say it’s my ability to combine empathy with precision. I don’t just deliver information—I deliver it in the exact way you need to hear it. I adapt to each student like a custom-made tool. Learning with me is not just productive—it’s enjoyable.
