About Awande
I am a University of Cape Town student pursuing a degree in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. I have a strong passion for both learning and teaching. I chose to teach Engineering Graphics and Design because I believe it is a powerful subject that helps students develop the ability to communicate ideas visually and technically, which is essential in engineering, architecture, and design. I am interested in teaching because I enjoy breaking down complex concepts into simple, accessible steps that make sense to everyone, and I find great satisfaction in seeing students grow confident in their skills. Teaching allows me to share my knowledge, inspire future engineers, and help learners connect theory with real-world applications, which is exactly what excites me about this field.

In the Engineering Graphics and Design lesson, I will be guiding learners through both the theory and practice of technical drawing as a means of visual communication in engineering and architecture. The lessons typically involve teaching drawing techniques such as freehand sketching, instrumental drawing, and sometimes computer-aided design, while also covering geometric constructions, orthographic and isometric projections, and sectional views. Depending on the focus, I will explore mechanical drawings of machine parts, architectural plans, or the design process itself, where learners move from problem identification to final technical drawings. The objective is to help students apply correct drawing conventions, interpret and produce accurate technical drawings, and develop spatial visualization skills that connect two-dimensional and three-dimensional representations. By combining demonstrations, hands-on practice, and real-world applications, the lesson ensures learners understand how engineering graphics serve as a universal language in design and manufacturing.
