About Aidan
I am Aidan, an eLearning designer. I design course content for undergraduate programs in chemistry and biology in the UK and USA universities.
I have a degree in Molecular Cellular and Developmental biology from University of Colorado Boulder. While there I worked both as a teaching assistant and research assistant.
As a teaching assistant I was trained in pedagogy so I could effectively teach students to critically think about genetics, and molecular biology. I worked in lectures, laboratories, in small groups and individually. I found that this was something I was passionate about and continued teaching for the rest of my university tenure (3 years).
During this time I also mentored new teaching assistants and tutors in pedagogical practice, and taught a seminar on how to be an effective TA.
As a research assistant I studied pedagogical literature, and used this knowledge to design and run experiments with students related to metacognition and cognitive load. These lessons of best teaching practice are embedded into my sessions.
With my experience I hope to be able to provide a service that will allow you or your student to not only grow more confident in their content understanding, but also have a framework and thought process to be able to apply to problem solving and knowledge application.

Hello!
I tutor and support students in Biology and Chemistry from GCSE and A-level through the first and second year of undergraduate programs.
During our sessions we will establish your knowledge base, and identify any misconceptions, misunderstandings you may have about the content. One of our goals is to be able to make sure you can both critically think, and apply your knowledge using proper scientific methodology.
In addition to studying content we will also discuss how to effectively answer exam questions by identifying key information, question objectives, and how to deal with in the moment knowledge deficits.
We will also actively reflect on the thought process, and how we reached conclusions, through metacognitive practices. This will allow you to be more reflective and effective in your learning as you will be able to apply metacognitive skills to any area of learning.
The length of sessions is generally 1 hour minimum, but we can adapt this to your needs.
