About Todd
I have 20 years of experience teaching in schools across 5 countries. I am therefore skilled at working with learners from a variety of contexts and backgrounds and design lessons that build trust and confidence alongside knowledge and skills. My empathy informs my work.
I have taught History to students aged 12-18 and Advanced Placement courses in History and Social Sciences (USA) to students aged 16-18. I have also tutored university students for whom English is a second or other language.
I am from the United States originally and lived in China, Qatar, Japan, and the United Kingdom before relocating to Sydney.
I have basic proficiency in Mandarin.

During an initial online conversation, I get to know the learner, their goal(s), and how they’ve learned best in the past. I then use this knowledge to propose a bespoke learning plan of 5-10 sessions, with each session lasting 60-90 minutes and conducted online or in person.
If the learner agrees to the plan, the first session includes an assessment to highlight the learner’s strengths and growth areas in relation to their goal(s). Subsequent sessions will generally include a check-in, a mini-lesson focussed on the target knowledge and/or skill, and an activity that enables the learner to apply what was covered in the mini-lesson. This activity will include conversation and/or writing, depending on the learner’s goal(s). I then provide feedback and, as necessary, adjust the plan for the next session.
