About Reka

Hey there! My name is Reka, I've lived in five countries (US, UK, China, Hungary, Czechia) and speak English, Mandarin Chinese, Hungarian and am learning Norwegian for fun! I'm a former opera singer, part-time cheesemonger and museum curator, and freelance historical researcher and Mandarin translator. My greatest passions are history and languages. I have a first-class honours degree from a global top ten university in History and Mandarin and CERFL C1+ fluency certificates in business and academic Mandarin, as well as a translating certificate. I've tutored essay writing, Chinese, singing, and AP (Advanced Placement, US equivalent to A-levels) for 6 years and love helping people grow their confidence and abilities. I also love to cook, and sometimes develop and submit recipes to small recipe blogs and magazines. I'd love to help you out in any way I can!

About the lesson

For all levels (beginner to experienced), lessons will include perfecting tones and pronunciation as well as character recognition and writing. Students will be taught using both HSK materials and contemporary news articles, stories, videos, et cetera to learn to speak and write as naturally and natively as possible. Lessons can be 45 minutes, an hour, or longer depending on preference. My fluency, but also my experience learning the language myself, affords the unique experience of a highly proficient tutor who can nonetheless identify learning challenges native English speakers will encounter and help them overcome them with confidence. I'm also happy to target specific needs such as advanced learners who simply want speaking practice or want to learn specific industry-related vocabulary, improving pronunciation, speaking more naturally, et cetera. I'm happy to accommodate all requests and will be completely open about my previous experience and confidence in my ability to help!
