About Dimitris

I am a member of the Team of Teachers of the World Theatre Training Institute -AKT ZENT. Since 2017
i am a guest teacher/director for the “Devised Theatre” course at the BA Acting- International, EAST 15 Acting School. I am the founder and artistic director of Per-Theater-Formance company. Certified teacher of Dr.Jurij Alschitz's methods. I've studied theatre directing/acting at the W.T.T.I - Akt Zent and i've completed the three years' advanced training programme "School After Theatre" for actors and directors, realized by AKT ZENT & GITIS / Russian Institute of Theatre Arts.

About the lesson

THE VERTICAL OF THE ROLE - A method for the actor’s self preparation.

The method “The Vertical of The Role” was created after a multiannual research by Dr. Jurij Alschitz and it has been successfully applied on stage all over the world. Over the years the method is being developed continuously by the five members’ certified Team of Teachers of Jurij Alchitz’s methods, in which I belong. (concealed information)

The first goal of the method is the development of the actor’s skills on preparing indepentantly and creatively his/her role. The method presents a specific and concrete way for the actor in order to become the creator, the “author” and the director of the role. Then The Vertical οf The Role shows the way to the philosophical and spiritual core of the character. It is challenging the actor to create and engage in a theatrical process as a professional and confident artist, as well as to discover a new artistic approach and open up new sources of inspiration, creativity and fantasy . The Vertical of the Role is a transformative learning/practice - an artistic ritual that develops the professionalism of the actor/ress and his/her perspectives in Theatre.

The Vertical of the Role- Key words and… a few more words.

Events: Analysis and approach of the line of the events (obvious and hidden) in the life of the role. The versions of the initial, main and final event.

Titles: Mapping the story- Familiarization with the role.

Narration: Storytelling (and later at the process: mythtelling) is a basic tool of the method.

Style: Approaching the story with different art styles.

Horizontal Axis: The biography of the role. Work on the events and changes happening in linear time. The (Imagined) Human Being.

Deconstruction: The “disassemblement” of the story and the text of the role. The deconstruction as energy release.

Themes: A philosophical approach. The themes that concern the role. Defying the main themes. Connection of the actor with the themes of the role.

Sections: Reconstruction of the text and the story according to the themes. Choice of the main words and phrases reflecting the theme.

Intertextuality: Fragments, phrases, quotes connected or related with the themes of your role (coming from other texts of the same author you are working on or from different authors and texts) can be “invited” and included to work at the Vertical.

Haiku: Creation of Haiku’s: For the scenes, for the acts, for the role.
Myth: Transforming the story of the role into a myth.

Ritual: Creation of a ritual based on the myth.

Improvisation: Researching different paths of approaching the role using selected materials created till this phase.

Vertical Axis: Choosing the path that leads to the light of the role. The transcending encounter.
Aesthetics: Curation of the aesthetics and physical actions.

Composition: Development of the art of composition throughout all the steps of the method. Creation of the final composition of the process.

Solo performance: Although the Vertical of the Role has been created as a method for the actor’s preparation while approaching and creating a role, it has also been used by many actors for the creation of their solo performances.

Practical Information: Fifteen lessons (1 hour and 30 minutes each)

The online lessons on The Vertical of the Role are individual and they will be realized through Skype (or any other application.) The lessons will take place two or three times a week in days and hours to be decided with the student.
