About Dan
Hi, I'm Dan, a professional software engineer in the aerospace industry with a passion for helping others become confident software engineers. My goal is not only to help you understand programming concepts but also to prepare you for the skills employers actually look for when hiring.
I tailor every lesson to your experience level and goals, whether you're learning your first programming language, taking university computer science courses, building personal projects, or preparing for technical interviews. I believe students learn best by writing code, asking questions, and understanding the reasoning behind solutions rather than memorizing them.
What sets me apart is my industry experience and my understanding of the software engineering hiring process. I can help you develop the skills that matter beyond the classroom, including writing clean, maintainable code, solving technical problems, communicating your thought process, building projects that strengthen your résumé, and preparing for coding interviews. I'll share practical advice on what recruiters and interviewers value so you can avoid common mistakes and focus your effort where it has the biggest impact.
Whether your goal is to improve your grades, land an internship, or secure your first software engineering role, I'll help you build the technical knowledge and confidence to get there.

I'm a software engineer with professional experience developing production software in the aerospace industry, and I focus on helping students build the skills they need to succeed both academically and in industry. My goal isn't just to help you solve today's assignment—it's to help you become an independent, confident software engineer.
My teaching style is highly interactive and tailored to each student's goals and current skill level. Rather than lecturing, I ask questions, work through problems together, and explain the reasoning behind design decisions. I emphasize fundamental concepts, clean coding practices, debugging techniques, and the problem-solving mindset that professional engineers use every day.
A typical lesson begins with identifying your objective, whether that's understanding a class topic, preparing for an exam, completing a project, or getting ready for technical interviews. We'll review any challenging concepts, work through examples together, and then apply what you've learned by writing or improving code. I end each session by summarizing the key takeaways and suggesting practice problems or next steps to reinforce your understanding.
What sets me apart is my real-world engineering experience. I can connect computer science theory to how software is actually designed, tested, reviewed, and maintained on professional engineering teams. Beyond programming, I can help you develop good software engineering habits, including writing maintainable code, using version control with Git, debugging effectively, and thinking systematically about software design.
I teach students at a wide range of levels, including beginners learning their first programming language, high school and university students taking computer science courses, bootcamp students, and professionals looking to strengthen their software engineering skills or prepare for technical interviews. I can help with programming fundamentals, object-oriented programming, data structures and algorithms, software design, debugging, Git, testing, and general software engineering best practices. Whether you're trying to pass a class, build personal projects, or prepare for a career in software engineering, I'll adapt each lesson to help you reach your goals.
