About Peishan

I am Peishan, a native Mandarin speaker with a doctorate in History from SOAS University of London. I also hold a Master’s degree in Political Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from National Chengchi University in Taiwan. I currently teach Mandarin to young learners at Manhattan Mandarin UK in London, where I design interactive and engaging lessons tailored to different ages and levels. I also have experience teaching adult learners, supporting them in building practical language skills and confidence.

Before moving into education, I worked as a journalist and television presenter, covering political and financial news. This background has strengthened my communication skills, creativity, and ability to explain complex ideas clearly. I am a patient, supportive, and creative teacher who is passionate about helping students enjoy learning Mandarin and achieve their goals.

About the lesson

My teaching style is interactive, creative, and tailored to each learner’s needs. I offer a wide range of lessons, from beginner fun activities like simple drawing and games, to advanced exam preparation for GCSE, A-Level, or adult learners.

I also incorporate traditional Chinese arts such as calligraphy and cultural storytelling to make learning Mandarin engaging and memorable.

Each lesson is structured but flexible, typically lasting 60 minutes, allowing time for speaking, listening, reading, and creative practice.I focus on building confidence, practical communication skills, and a love of the language.

My lessons are suitable for: • Young children just starting Mandarin • Teenagers preparing for exams • Adults seeking conversation skills, cultural knowledge, or advanced language mastery

Teaching Approach

1. Structured Learning
• Listening, speaking, reading, and writing
• Chinese calligraphy and character writing
• Chinese culture, mythology, and classical literature . Topics include Tang poetry, Confucian texts, Journey to the West, The Art of War, etc.
• I simplify complex texts and explain them clearly in English to help students truly understand Chinese language and culture

• Learning through games, storytelling, and conversation •

3. Outdoor learning: museums, galleries, Chinatown, and restaurants.
• Practical Mandarin for daily life

4. Travel Learning : Optional cultural trips in the UK or abroad tailored to students’ interests
