About Sarah
Hello! My name is Sarah and I'm a professional illustrator and surface pattern designer. I have a PGCE in Art and Design and create illustrations both digitally and with traditional media such as watercolours. If you are wanting to improve your drawing skills and take a leap into digital art I can teach you how to create colourful illustrations in your chosen style. I have been keeping sketchbooks from a young age and this is where I gather inspiration for my illustrations and surface pattern designs. Therefore I can help you develop a daily sketchbook habit by teaching you techniques to get over artists block and provide prompts to help you develop your artistic voice. My style of illustration is colourful and fun and I currently sell a range of art prints, greeting cards and stickers through my Etsy and Folksy stores. I also use Print on Demand websites such as Redbubble and Society6, so if you are looking to expand your art into a range of products I can help you do this. I also work with my husband who is a graphic designer on branding projects where I create illustrations for logos, packaging and websites. This has also included working on surface pattern designs for a fashion accessories company. Before becoming a full time illustrator I worked as a freelance embroidery artist providing embroidered illustrations. I am also a published author and have published an embroidery book called The Needlecraft Style Directory in 2012. Qualifications BA (hons) Embroidery - Manchester Metropolitan University. PGCE Further, Higher and Adult Education, Art and Design - Bolton University. My artwork has been featured in various publications and magazines.

If you love surface patterns and would love to see your illustrations on fabrics and wallpapers I can show you how to take your illustrations into Adobe Photoshop to create repeating patterns which you can then sell by uploading them to Spoonflower, Redbubble or Society6. Things you will learn: How to take your illustrations from Procreate and transfer them to Adobe Photoshop to create Smart Objects. Create basic and half-drop repeats. Use the new pattern preview feature of Adobe Photoshop. Create a print ready pattern tile to upload to Spoonflower etc. You will need access to Adobe Photoshop and an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and the app Procreate. I have been creating surface patterns for many years and have licensed them for fashion accessories. I also sell my own designs on Redbubble, Society6 and Spoonflower. My chosen way to create motifs is the app Procreate but I also create pattern designs using watercolour illustrations. I can show you how to cut out watercolour illustrations using layer masks in Adobe Photoshop or Procreate. My lessons are tailored to your needs and experience and are online to suit your schedule.
