About Maya

I’m a native English speaker from Manchester, UK, currently living and working in Mexico. I studied Anthropology at university, which sparked my interest in different cultures and languages. Teaching ESOL runs in my family—both my mum and grandma were teachers—so I’m proud to be continuing that tradition. What I love most about teaching is the cultural exchange and seeing how learning English can open new opportunities for people. Outside of teaching, I enjoy dancing (I’m currently learning salsa), trying new foods—especially Middle Eastern and Italian cuisine—and spending time with my family and our two dogs.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is based on Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), which means lessons are focused on helping you actively use English in real-life situations. I create a friendly, engaging, and supportive environment where you feel comfortable speaking, making mistakes, and improving your confidence.

I offer two types of 60-minute lessons, depending on your goals. The first is conversation-focused, designed to get you speaking as much as possible. These lessons include a variety of communicative activities such as role-plays, debates, and opinion-based discussions, all tailored to your interests.

The second type is more structured and focuses on building a strong foundation in grammar, vocabulary, and overall language skills. For these lessons, I mainly use the Oxford English File textbooks, combined with additional exercises and personalised practice.

I have been teaching full-time for over a year at reputable language schools in the UK and abroad. I have experience working with teenagers and adults, and I have taught all levels from complete beginners to advanced. So no matter your starting point, I can help you build the skills and confidence you need to succeed.
