About Joanne

My school has been my home for the last 17 years- and I am very grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that made me who I am today.
I have also taken part in a variety of extra-curricular activities, exhilarating, challenging, and very rewarding, as well as giving me a chance to expand both my physical and team-building skills. Through these activities, I demonstrated independent thinking, the leadership of a group, as well as critical and analytical thinking- all of which are traits that I feel will be central in teaching English further.
Overall, I am solidly dedicated to studies/ teaching and learning process in all my subjects, especially Teaching the English Language to foreigners, and I am unequivocally excited to translate this dedication and natural curiosity into further work. Through my second postgraduate diploma in Psychology, I have developed my analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as my natural curiosity to teach. I have become a balanced, open-
mind teacher who is not afraid to take risks when necessary, to innovate and exploit new techniques every day in order to achieve the maximum of my daily teaching/learning aim. I am a well - rounded and hard - working teacher and I cannot wait to share my love and passion for something that has been such a core aspect of my development and will relish the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals on the subject I wish to explore for the rest of my life.

About the lesson

Everyone has something that stirs their passion. Something that sparks an interest so deep-seated that to not pursue it would be unthinkable. Some find theirs in numbers, others in athletics; perhaps one may find a love for science or a penchant for design. I found my love, passion, and fulfillment when I was very young, and I found it in the Teaching.
The intricacies of the language itself and a teacher’s ability to create powerful emotions in an individual have long been enthralled me, and I am amazed at how the words of one can influence a thousand. Therefore, I feel nothing but pure excitement at the prospect of teaching English& French today at any level really.

Whether it be the Ronald Dahl tales of my childhood, the thrillers of Lee Child that have kept me turning pages well into the night, or the entirely immersive legends of J.R.R Tolkien, reading has always been an integral part of my life. From this love for reading comes teaching I believe, which I have developed through several years.

I take great pleasure in understanding various teaching/learning approaches that different individuals adopt, and using these unique quirks to mold my own style and technique. With age, qualifications, and experience my teaching skills have grown, from being mentioned in an international newsletter as a Secondary School Teacher of the Year and up to using English at the university as a Course Manager and as a way to further expand my knowledge and research into my passion.

With my love of languages comes a love of teaching. As a prominent figure in my school’s literature and linguistic departments, I was chosen to direct a whole process of teaching Modern Languages department. The experience was invaluable, and I was able to refine my leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

These leadership and interpersonal skills cultivated in me being elected as Head Department Teacher at the beginning of my career. Taking a position of responsibility has left me with the ability to effectively manage and communicate with students and faculty alike. Andu is a joy to work with. He’s very attentive and polite ,and willing to learn as
much as he can from every hour that we spend together.
He’s receptive, watching ,listening and responding to greetings and questions . He follows simple instructions based on routine and shows good alertness to words addressed to him. He’s a great child with a positive attitude towards learning .
With support,trust and motivation ,Andu can get the CAN DO attitude .

When he came to me , Andu had no reading or writing skills whatsoever . He din't know any word in English Language and with loads and loads of work , support , motivation and commitment Andu listen to simple stories and poems with enjoyment today and takes parts in reading activities,recognises familiar words and phonemes, shows great interest in books and prints, can read most of the Y1/2HFW , works out meaning from well-known texts with confidence.
Andu comments on events read from fiction stories ( likes/ dislikes).
Can re-tell a story using a story map, or by ordering 3-5 pictures / events from a familiar topic
independently, and with limited support ,he begins to predict what a text may be about .
Establishes the meaning of simple sentences and uses contextual clues to gain understanding of unfamiliar vocabulary.
Andu can write from memory simple sentences with accurate use of sentence division and word order , and conveys some meaning to the reader .
He uses regular gaps between words and with support he can write simple , compound sentences using some connectives : and, but ,because .
His hand-writing is neat and really calligraphic.

Exploring the world of English language through film , music and poems are
Andu’ s preferred class activities.
He’s a great child with a positive attitude towards school and education, and with a huge
learning potential.
He shows a good control of verbal English language, ordering up to 5 or 6 words in a
sentence, grammatically incomplete / disjointed because of vocabulary limitation and
tenses.
Polite in social interactions, using greetings and social language linked to routine ,Andu
is able to extend ideas , and conveys meaning using tone of voice and word emphasis ,
responding to questions about lesson , initiating and sustaining a conversation , using
simple connectives .

What qualities do good teachers possess? Can we settle on a set of qualities that all teachers should possess and can they be taught? There are a plethora of articles, commentaries, and books written on what goes into making a good teacher. I would advocate that contained in these pieces are the framework for what good teaching looks like. Joanne is my favorite one.
My experience with Joanne as a teacher was a special one .From the perspective of a parent , Joanne runs a happy class ,high achieving environment in which the pupils feel content, valued and achieve high respective standards academically and behaviorally.
Teachers like Joanne create a sense of awe and wonder to develop inquiring minds with an insatiable thirst for learning that endures.
