About Michael
Hello my name is Michael. I'm a London based writer who has been a professional writer for the last 10+ years. I've worked mostly in video games, but I've also made films, worked on TV programmes and theatre projects. My passions include queer cinema, Terry Pratchett, grand strategy games, stand-up comedy and Laura Dern. As well as being a writer, I have a background in teaching. I was an EFL teacher in Sudan and Spain before getting into video games. I've used these skills throughout my career to run workshops and lead writing rooms, but I especially love working with students one-on-one to build their writing skills. In my experience I find the thing students lack the most is self-esteem. So I am passionate about building my students confidence with their creative writing - helping my students express themselves!

All lessons would be focused on your needs as a creative writer, whether you're just beginning to write or already way ahead on your journey. Our lessons could focus around anything, but could include: - A design workshop on how to spot clichés and add well-developed characters to your stories. - Workouts to help sharpen your dialogue writing muscles. - Coaching on how to implement feedback on your work. - Confidence building exercises to get your story out of your head and onto the page. - Lessons on the core principles of video game narrative design. A typical lesson is around 50 minutes - 1 hour. It would generally be structured like this: Warm up (5 - 10 minutes) A quick exercise to get into the creative writing mindset. Reading and feedback last week's homework (10 - 15 minutes) Topic based exercise (10-15 minutes) A practical creative writing exercise to get us into a new skill (for example - suspense writing, generating plot ideas, adding depth to our characters) Writing exercise (20 minutes) A longer writing exercise to practise the new skill we've learned. Homework (5 minutes) Planning what we're going for next week which uses what we've learned.
