About KANAGASUBBULAKSHMI
I am a PhD-qualified Material Chemist and former Assistant Professor with over 10 years of teaching and research experience in Canada, the USA, and internationally. I have taught students from high school through to Master’s level, helping them succeed in UAlberta courses like CHEM 101/102, CHEM 211/213 (Quantitative Analysis), CHEM 241 (Inorganic Chemistry), CHEM 261 (Organic Chemistry I), and advanced modules such as CHEM 399/401/403 (Research in Chemistry). I also tutor Biochemistry courses, including AUBIO 380 (Proteins & Enzymes), AUBIO 381 (Metabolism), AUBIO 388 (Biochemistry Lab), as well as introductory Biology (cell biology, molecular biology, genetics) and Physics (mechanics, electricity & magnetism). My approach: Build strong conceptual foundations through clear, step-by-step explanations. Link theory to real-world applications from my research in environmental science, carbon capture, and materials innovation. Tailor lessons to your goals — whether it’s improving grades, preparing for exams, or mastering research-level topics. What sets me apart: University-level teaching and curriculum design experience. Ability to simplify complex topics without losing depth. Proven success helping students gain confidence and excel in assessments. Whether you’re a high school student aiming for top marks, an undergraduate working through challenging lab material, or a graduate student preparing for thesis defense, I will help you achieve results with professionalism, patience, and proven teaching methods.

I bring over a decade of teaching and research experience as a PhD in Materials Chemistry and former Assistant Professor, guiding students from high school through to graduate level. My approach blends strong conceptual foundations with real-world applications, so students not only master the syllabus but also understand how chemistry connects to industry, research, and everyday life.
Teaching Methodology & Techniques
I start with a diagnostic discussion to understand each student’s current level, learning style, and goals.
I break complex chemistry concepts into clear, logical steps, supported by diagrams, examples, and real-world analogies.
I use problem-based learning — moving from theory to practice through worked examples, past papers, and application-based questions.
For advanced learners, I integrate research insights, case studies, and industry examples from environmental science, carbon capture, and materials innovation.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Brief recap of the previous session to ensure retention.
Targeted concept delivery using visuals, real-world parallels, and step-by-step explanations.
Interactive practice — solving problems together, with immediate feedback.
Independent challenge — student applies the concept solo, with guidance as needed.
Summary & next steps — concise notes, revision tips, and tailored practice tasks.
What Sets Me Apart
Experience teaching both foundational and advanced chemistry at university level.
Ability to connect classroom topics to cutting-edge research and industry trends.
Proven track record of helping students improve grades, build confidence, and prepare for higher studies.
Special focus on linking chemistry to career pathways for students considering STEM fields.
Who My Lessons Are For
High school students (Grade 10–12/IB/AP) needing subject mastery and exam preparation.
Undergraduate students seeking clarity in core or elective chemistry courses.
Master’s students requiring deeper conceptual insight, research mentoring, or thesis guidance.
Students preparing for competitive exams or professional school entrance with a chemistry component.
