About Serena

I have been academically investigating the Italian language for 10 years. Sometimes languages can be frustratingly irregular: trust me, it’s not you: it’s the language. But each irregular Italian word has a story. If you are an inquisitive student I would love to tell you how these words came about and how you can make sense of the irregularities by learning just a bit about Latin.

If you are a lower-intermediate and your goal is becoming more confident in a conversational context, you can choose the Italian conversation option. I speak standard Italian (i.e. no dialectal inflection), so you will have the opportunity to learn the right pronunciation and prosody. We will talk freely, and you will choose how often during the conversation you want to stop to receive feedback and corrections.

If you are just starting off, no worries: I know how daunting it seems at the beginning. We will follow your pace and get you speaking Italian before you realise it.

Our meetings will be really flexible: we can meet from Monday to Sunday, including lunchtime and evenings until 10 p.m.

About the lesson

I am an Italian PhD student in Italian Linguistics, graduated in Italian Studies (Language, Literature, and Art), and I am offering Italian classes at any level. My method is immersive: you will learn the language through the culture. There is so much for us to talk about: how to choose the right wine for that dinner party, why pasta really needs to be “al dente”, how a pizza with only 4 ingredients can be the best, all the gestures, Italian sense of personal space, how touch can create comfort between strangers and so much more. After studying with me, you will not only be able to speak the language, but you will also blend in with the locals.

CONVERSATION-ONLY CLASSES come at the price of 20 £/h
I don't charge any travel cost for lessons within 20' walking distance
For travel on peak time, I charge 4.80 (corresponding to the price of a return tube trip)
