About Alvaro
Hi! I'm a Spanish biologist currently pursuing my PhD in Genetics and Evolution here in Canberra. I have several years of experience teaching science both in academic settings and through private tutoring, and I’m passionate about making complex topics clear and engaging for students of all levels. I offer private tutoring in a wide range of science subjects, including biology, chemistry, environmental science, and general science, tailored to both school and university students. Whether you’re preparing for high school exams, struggling with university coursework, or just want to strengthen your understanding, I can help.
My background includes extensive research in molecular biology, ecology, taxonomy, and conservation genetics, along with international academic experience. This allows me to connect theory with real-world science and adapt my teaching to your specific curriculum and goal.
To build up my first local student base in Canberra, I am currently offering a special Launch Price of $50/hr for Primary and High School students. For advanced University-level specialized coursework, my rate is $70/hr due to the higher level of preparation required. First 30-minute online trial session is free!

My lessons are tailored to the individual needs and goals of each student. I combine a solid academic foundation with a flexible, dynamic, and supportive teaching style to make science approachable, logical, and engaging. Traditional, passive science classes based on endless rote memorization are definitely not my style; instead, I focus on building true logical understanding, helping students grasp the “why” behind the content so they can actually enjoy the learning process.
To achieve this, I completely avoid passive learning. I use diagrams, real-world examples, step-by-step explanations, and targeted practice exercises to help students master difficult concepts. I also adapt my methods depending on how each student learns best, whether they prefer visual aids, active problem-solving, structured discussion, or repetition.
Lessons typically last 60 minutes, but I can adjust the duration depending on your preferences and schedule. I have years of experience as a science tutor, working with students at secondary school, high school, and university levels. My academic background includes a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biology, and I am currently completing a PhD focused on conservation genetics and evolutionary biology.
