About Alexandra

I am a professor at a college in the DC area, USA. I majored in English, and I am currently finishing my second BA in Hispanic philology, as well as studying my MA in Humanities while doing research in Theater and North American drama. I have been teaching both English and Spanish for more than 8 years, and I have experience with all kinds of methodologies: from the most traditional one, such as pure grammar, to the most current one, inspired by new technologies and advances in oral expression.

About the lesson

My most effective method has always been the communicative approach: I like to base my classes on oral communication since the purpose of learning a language is, after all, to be able to interact and communicate. Grammar and vocabulary are acquired when one is comfortable with the basic structures of the language, which are learned with the fluency of the language, and they become more complex at the level that the student understands the characteristics of the language itself. My classes usually consist of Prezi presentations in which, from oral activities, grammatical concepts are introduced, always practicing without explaining the theory itself, as exemplifying is understood better. My classes are meant to be taken at any level.
