About Burcu
Welcome! My name is Burcu, and I am a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. Holding a PhD in Political Science, I bring years of university-level teaching experience and active research expertise to our lessons. Over the course of my academic career, I have had the privilege of teaching undergraduate courses, supervising student research, and publishing research with world-leading academic publishers like Palgrave Macmillan. Navigating higher education in the humanities and social sciences can feel overwhelming. Whether you are aiming to top your A-Level classes, struggling to structure a tricky university essay, or working through a master’s dissertation, my goal is to give you the clarity, tools, and confidence you need to excel.
Having worked as a research fellow at the University of Edinburgh and currently at King’s College London, I understand exactly what top-tier UK universities look for in student work. Insider Knowledge on Assessment: As a published academic and journal reviewer, I know how to evaluate arguments, structure convincing literature reviews, and refine prose to meet high academic standards.
I recognise that every student learns differently. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can ask questions freely, break down complex theories at your own pace, and master advanced research skills.
Investing in your education is a big step, and I am committed to helping you reach your full potential. I look forward to working together and supporting your academic journey!

My lessons are tailored primarily for A-Level, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate students in Political Science, International Relations, Security Studies, and Human Rights. I also support university applicants with personal statements and students undertaking complex dissertation or thesis research. Teaching Methodology & Techniques.
Having designed and delivered university-level courses, I bridge the gap between abstract academic theory and practical, high-scoring execution: Critical Analysis & Argumentation: Rather than rote memorisation, I guide students through unpacking complex political theories, evaluating competing arguments, and building rigorous analytical frameworks.
Drawing on my experience as a publishing book author and peer-reviewed journal contributor, I teach students how to structure papers, sharpen literature reviews, cite effectively, and craft compelling arguments that impress markers.
Each lesson is built around your specific syllabus or thesis goals, using targeted readings, real-world case studies, and detailed line-by-line essay feedback.
Typical Lesson Length 60 Minutes: Standard weekly session focused on module topics, theory breakdowns, or essay outline planning. Extended workshop format recommended for dissertation supervision, deep literature reviews, or intensive essay editing.
Qualifications & Experience: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. PhD in Political Science with extensive university teaching experience as a course instructor and teaching assistant at Bilkent University. Former TÜBİTAK Visiting Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. Published Scholar with an upcoming Palgrave Macmillan monograph and articles in leading journals like Security Dialogue and International Political Sociology.
