About Samson
Hi, I'm Samson. I've taught enough kids over the years to notice something: talent has surprisingly little to do with who sticks with the drums and who quits after a few months. What matters far more is whether a child feels good about their lessons — excited, capable, unafraid of making mistakes. So that's what I focus on above almost everything else.
I love this instrument in particular for teaching kids, because it's so physical and immediate — even a total beginner can make something that sounds satisfying within a single lesson, and that early win matters enormously for a young student's confidence.
I also believe teaching should feel like a partnership with the whole family, not just the student. Parents usually want to help but aren't sure how, so I make a point of keeping communication simple and warm, and I never make a parent feel like they're failing if practice didn't happen every day. We're all aiming for the same happy outcome, and a little grace goes a long way.
If your child can't stop drumming on the furniture, or you've always wondered whether they'd take to it, I'd love to find out with them — gently, patiently, and with plenty of encouragement along the way.

Most kids arrive at their first drum lesson already tapping on something — a table, a knee, the arm of a chair — so honestly, half my job is just channeling energy that's already there. We'll spend a good chunk of early lessons simply having fun with rhythm: clapping games, playing along to songs a student already loves, making noise without worrying yet about doing it "right." Confidence comes first; precision follows naturally once a student feels safe making a racket.
Underneath that fun, we're absolutely building real skills — steady timing, coordination between hands and feet, control over how loud and soft things get — but I break each one into small, winnable pieces so nothing ever feels too big to tackle. Every little success gets celebrated out loud, because for a young student, feeling capable is what keeps them coming back next week.
For parents, I like to stay easy to reach: a quick note after each lesson on what we worked on, and simple, doable suggestions for practice at home that won't turn into a nightly battle. I'd rather a student play for five relaxed minutes than be dragged to the kit for thirty tense ones.
At the end of the day, I care more about a child loving the drums than about how fast they progress. A joyful start on an instrument tends to last a lifetime — and that's really the goal.
