About Mpho

I am a junior mechanical engineer. I gave lesson for a year in university, tutoring a class of about 15. I am a practicing engineer and daily use the fundamentals of maths and science in my work. Though my educational background is in Engineering I play the piano. I have a solid background in music theory and hold a Grade 5 in music theory and a Grade 2 in classical piano from ABRSM, the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music. I have also played the trumpet in a small brass band for a year. And enjoy photography.

About the lesson

During the interaction sessions two teaching methodologies will be implemented:

Lecture Method
For areas where the learner shows very little knowledge or limited background knowledge of the topic the Lecture Method will be used. This method allows the instructor to foster learning through explaining, describing or relating the necessary information the learner is required to learn through listening and understanding. It’s crucial to consider the attention span, estimated to be 15-20,im only.

Discussion Method
For areas where the learner has developed some knowledge or experience on the topic the Discussion Method will be used to foster learning. This method involves two-way communication between learner and tutor. It is more an active learning experience used to develop the existing knowledge around the topic of consideration. A Discussion Method approach may follow that of the Lecture Method.
Study Assignment Method
Outside these sessions, learning will be fostered by the Study Assignment Method. A method used when there is limited classroom time and need for increased coverage of material. This is a method in which the tutor assigns reading to books, periodicals, projects or exercises for practice. Much like the Discussion Method, this method is put in place to enhance the existing knowledge demonstrated by the learner. It will set the stage for the Discussion Method used during the interactive sessions.
