About Simona

I am an art historian specialised in Renaissance and Modern European Art working at Christie’s Provenance Department, London since 2011. I have an unusual blend of skills in provenance research, identification and interpretation of paintings, and collecting history. After graduating in History of Art with distinction in 2004 (BA Honours), I completed a PhD at the University of Rome “Sapienza” and University of Venice IUAV in 2009 on the Ara Pacis marble reliefs, focusing on their collecting history and role as iconographic sources in Renaissance and Baroque paintings. To improve my expertise in visual analysis, identification and interpretation of paintings, I then completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Art, Style and Design (University of Glasgow) in 2011. I enjoy very much supervising and teaching, both undergraduate and post-graduate students but also more general audiences. In 2004-2006 I was coordinator of tutorials in History of art for undergraduate students at the University of Rome “Sapienza”. From 2006 to 2010 I have coordinated teaching modules on “History of Collecting in Renaissance Venice”, and “Theories and Restorations in XX Century Italy” at University of Venice IUAV within the BA course in Visual Studies. In 2015 I have taught at the Institute of Continuing Education of the University of Cambridge a course on Women of the Renaissance, focusing on the feminine role in the Italian society between fifteen and sixteen century.

About the lesson

I have been teaching Italian to foreign people for many years, especially university students who want to achieve an high standard of skills and knowledge. Depending on the initial level of my students, I focus on teaching them most recurrent words and specific topics to give them the tools for an initial conversation. I then move on reading texts and articles to give them the possibility to learn while having fun. For those who already have the basic knowledge of the grammar and vocabulary, I can move forward looking forward increasing also the variety of expressions and to apply them also in the written form.
