About Emily
I'm currently studying Spanish and American Sign Language at the University of Connecticut, with a focus on interpreting. I'm on track to complete my program in three years, a year early, and will graduate this Spring.
As someone who has learned Spanish as a second language, I think it's important for students to recognize the difference between learning and acquiring a language.
When you acquire your first language as an infant and young child, your brain follows a different process than when you learn a language later in life. This is a fact that I've kept central to my studies of Spanish and ASL, which I believe has contributed to my success in learning both languages.

My lessons are perfect for students new to the language or taking Spanish at their middle or high school. I'm excited to help those beginning their Spanish journey by building a strong foundation and providing further assistance to those who already have mastered the basics.
A typical lesson will include a presentation of new vocabulary and then opportunities to incorporate that vocabulary into grammatical concepts. Additional activities to do outside of our lessons can be provided if requested by the student.
As a student majoring in Spanish, I have gone through the process of learning and fine-tuning my Spanish. I can relate to students who are learning Spanish as a second language and can help them through the challenges they will face during that process.
Lessons can be conducted in Spanish or English, depending on the proficiency of the student.
