About Canyon

I am currently a pre-medical major at Benedictine University, as such I am expected to perform highly in writing and research. When attending my writing course I observed that many students were struggling to keep up; especially with prompts that require high research, creativity, and articulation. My goal in tutoring isn't just to help students stay on top of their writing grades in their secondary school years, but to also prepare them to exceed any writing courses they might take in the future. If you'd like to know more on my performance here is what my writing professor has to say about me: "[Canyon] exceeds requirements and my expectations with his writing of essays; in length, ideas, and evidence. He often writes multiple extra pages and includes additional sources to further support his argument; he illustrates his ideas with metaphor, even allegory, that surpasses the [the standard]...In his writing, he draws from his experiences and uses this in support of the meaning he has made. About the lesson

A really strong method to improve writing that we will incorporate is taking different approaches to your voice as a writer than what you have typically been taught before. Many students in high school and junior high school struggle to formulate and tie together sentences because they don't know how to tap into systems and structures that really give one's narratives a flow. Through my lessons, expect to start using new tools like semicolons, dashes, and ellipses that will help make your writing unique but also have a stronger ebb. Another problem students will start to face is how to quote a text while also holding together their essay seamlessly. Through these lessons you will learn tactics on how to use brackets and other quotation strategies to improve your overall writing capabilities. All this and more will be taught to you, expect to see writing shift since expectations will move from high school level writing to that of college material.
