About Mark
In its simplest form, my teaching philosophy is that 'if their eyes are shining, then you're doing it right'. I love teaching because of the way a student's eyes light up when they feel the beauty of understanding a new idea. I love Economics because it gives us such amazing insight into human behaviour and how the world works.
I am a forty-one year old family man who wants to live an inspired life, so I fill my life with inspiring blogs, podcasts, journalism and books. I am fascinated by practical philosophy and I love discovering new ideas.

I have spent the last eleven years as Head of Economics at one of the UK's leading independent girls' schools, building a department at the pinnacle of secondary education. I also serve as Assistant Lead Examiner for a UK exam board and I have individually tutored many students preparing for Economics A Levels.
My lessons are targeted at A Level Economics students (with particular specialism for the AQA exam board) and they typically last one hour, but I can be flexible on that.
My approach is to use targeted questioning to quickly diagnose a student's strengths and areas for development before strategically focusing on those areas. I use a range of engaging resources to boost students' learning, many of which I have created myself. Furthermore, I like to develop clear and effective revision/consolidation/extension plans with my students to empower them to keep making progress outside the sessions. Finally, I help them with their exam technique to ensure that they fully prepared to reach their full potential in the exams.
