About JT
I am an incoming student at the University of Edinburgh and recently completed my A levels at Brampton College. I have a genuine enthusiasm for History and a strong academic record, having achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE History and an A* at A level, including 100% in the source paper.
I want to tutor because I enjoy helping other students understand not only historical events, but also how to think critically, construct persuasive arguments and express their ideas with confidence. Having completed these qualifications recently, I understand the demands students currently face and can share practical methods that worked for me.
I am patient, approachable and able to explain ideas clearly. I also recognise that students learn in different ways, particularly neurodivergent students, and I aim to create lessons in which each student feels understood, supported and capable of progressing.

My lessons are designed for GCSE and A level History students who want to strengthen their knowledge, write more analytical essays and improve their examination technique.
Having recently achieved a Grade 9 at GCSE and an A* at A level, including 100% in the A level source paper, I understand what students need to do to turn good historical knowledge into high scoring answers. I also understand the pressures of these examinations because I completed them myself very recently.
Lessons will be tailored to each student’s needs and may include breaking down difficult topics, planning essays, analysing sources and interpretations, reviewing written work, practising timed questions and learning how to respond precisely to command words and marking criteria.
I can also help students develop practical revision techniques suited to the way they learn, with particular understanding of the needs of neurodivergent students. This may include breaking work into manageable stages, creating clear revision structures, using active recall and finding ways to maintain focus without becoming overwhelmed.
My aim is to make expectations clear, build confidence and help students develop methods they can use independently. A typical lesson lasts one hour. Lessons are available online from anywhere and in person in Edinburgh.
