About Sergio
I teach because I want to pay forward the gift of education that my parents gave to me.
Outside of my formal tutoring experience, I also volunteer at The Preuss School UC San Diego, where I've been pivotal in establishing and expanding a high school Science Olympiad team, growing the coaching staff and supporting a diverse student body, many of whom are from first-generation, low-income backgrounds. Whether it’s through Saturday schools, summer programs, or regular class sessions, my teaching philosophy is always centered on making education accessible and engaging for all.

I graduated with a 4.0 earning a degree in molecular and cell biology from UC San Diego. I earned grades of A+ in all of the following upper division biology classes: human physiology (BIPN 100), genetics (BICD 100), embryos genes and development (BICD 130), metabolic biochemistry (BIBC 102), cell biology (BICD 110), molecular biology (BIMM 100), molecular basis of human disease (BIMM 110) and earned a final grade of A in microbiology (BIMM 110). I have formal experience serving as a teaching assistant in upper-division genetics and led study sessions across many of these other classes as well.
My teaching approach focuses on meeting students where they're at and building up from fundamentals rather than relying on rote memorization. I work with each student to identify knowledge gaps and develop personalized study strategies, particularly emphasizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for high school and college success. Having recently navigated the pre-medical journey myself, I understand the challenges students face and can provide targeted guidance not just for classes, but for the overall medical school application process.
