  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in science, especially biology and medical sciences, developed quite early during my school years. This curiosity eventually led me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Pathology.

As for private tutoring, it began more naturally than planned. While studying, I often helped classmates understand complex topics and realized I had a knack for breaking down difficult concepts into simpler ones. Later, when I started teaching online, I discovered how rewarding it is to help students overcome their fear of subjects like science and mathematics. That’s when tutoring became not just a skill, but a passion.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) and Mathematics at the primary, secondary and higher-secodary levels. In biology, I particularly enjoy topics like human physiology, genetics, and microbiology because they connect directly to real-life applications. In chemistry, I like teaching difficult concepts like chemical reactions and basic calculations because helping students finally “get it” is very satisfying.

In mathematics, I enjoy problem-solving and helping students build logical thinking skills. Topics like algebra and basic arithmetic are especially important because they form the foundation for everything else.

If I’m being honest, some students find certain topics like memorization heavy parts of biology or repetitive calculations less exciting and I understand that. My goal is always to make even those topics engaging by connecting them to real-life situations.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I’ve had teachers who played a huge role in shaping my learning journey. One of my biology teachers stood out because she didn’t just teach from the textbook she made every topic feel alive. She encouraged questions, never made students feel embarrassed for not understanding, and always explained concepts with patience.

That teaching style stayed with me. I try to create the same kind of supportive and encouraging environment for my own students.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs more than just subject knowledge. In my opinion, the most important qualities are:

Patience: Every student learns at a different pace.

Clear communication: The ability to simplify complex ideas.

Adaptability: Changing teaching methods based on the student’s needs.

Empathy: Understanding a student’s struggles without judgment.

Consistency: Helping students build discipline and confidence over time.

A tutor should not just teach, but also motivate and guide students.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I remember a time during my studies when I struggled with a particular concept in chemistry that involved calculations. No matter how many times I tried, it just didn’t make sense. One day, a teacher explained it using a simple everyday example and suddenly everything clicked.

That moment stayed with me because it showed me how powerful the right explanation can be. Now, whenever my students struggle, I remind myself that maybe they don’t need more effort they just need a different explanation.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Like many students, I initially found certain areas of chemistry and mathematics challenging, especially when they involved problem-solving under time pressure. Another challenge was balancing conceptual understanding with exam preparation.

Even now, as a tutor, one ongoing challenge is ensuring that each student stays motivated, especially when they feel discouraged. But I see this as a positive challenge it pushes me to continuously improve my teaching methods.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My main passion is teaching itself especially making learning easier and more accessible. I genuinely enjoy helping students move from confusion to clarity.

At the same time, I also enjoy content writing, particularly educational content. It allows me to explain concepts in a structured way and reach a wider audience beyond the classroom.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

What makes me stand out is my ability to connect with students and adapt to their individual needs. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every student is different, and I tailor my teaching style accordingly.

I focus on building strong concepts rather than just helping students memorize answers. My goal is to make students confident, independent learners who can tackle problems on their own.

Most importantly, I teach with sincerity and dedication. I truly want my students to succeed not just in exams, but in understanding the subject for life.
