About Wangxing
My name is Wangxing Guo and I am currently studying BSc Biological Sciences at Imperial College London, focusing on biomedicine, plant science and evolutionary biology. n my free time, I like hiking and exploring astonishing natural places. I also debate and was very happy when I reached the final in an European debating competition. Finally, I read frequently, mainly biology and philosophy.
Tutoring is a great way of learning because you need to be knowledgeable enough in a subject to actually teach it to another person. The preparation of the classes and the spontaneous questions from students during the classes will truly test my understanding of my subject (Natural Sciences) and help me to remind the fundamental concepts of it, which are key for learning more complex theories or models.
As a student from a disadvantaged background that struggled to get into Imperial College London, I know very well how hard is to be successful in life without opportunities provided from a young age. Tutoring is not about giving a list of facts to remember for the exam, but teaching the mechanisms and reasons behind the theory, helping the students to obtain a deeper and more flexible knowledge of the subjects.

Before starting to prepare my lessons, I ask questions to the students about their learning style, confidence in the subject, etc. in order to make the lessons tailored to each student.
As a teacher, I love writing on the blackboard while explaining because it gives the necessary pause to the lessons and helps me to organise my thoughts better. I also use the blackboard for drawing diagrams and sketches. I do not like speaking for the whole lesson or passing through many PowerPoint slides. Instead, I like engaging with the students, asking them questions and pushing themselves to actually understand the content not just a list of facts. Therefore, my lessons are focused on explaining the most difficult concepts of the subject and trying to create links of the new content with your previous knowledge. I provide the factual and straightforward information for the student to read before the lesson.
