About Chi
I am currently completing a Bachelor of Communication at Victoria University of Wellington, majoring in Marketing Communications and minoring in Chinese. I hold HSK Level 5 and have consistently achieved strong results in my university Chinese language courses, which led to my lecturer nominating me for the Laywood and Joyce Chan Award.
Having learned Mandarin as a second language myself, I understand the challenges learners can face with pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and building confidence in conversation. I aim to explain these areas clearly and patiently, drawing on the learning strategies that have helped me progress to an advanced level.
I am organized, responsible, and committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is not only to help students improve their Mandarin, but also to help them become more confident and independent language learners.

My lessons focus on making Mandarin practical, clear, and enjoyable for beginners. I combine vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and everyday conversation, with an emphasis on helping students understand how Chinese is actually used rather than simply memorizing words.
A typical lesson lasts around 60 minutes and can be adapted to each student’s goals, whether they want to build a strong foundation, improve conversational confidence, or prepare for HSK study. I also enjoy incorporating Chinese culture and real-life examples to make the language easier to understand and remember.
I am an HSK 5 learner and Chinese Minor student at Victoria University of Wellington, where I have achieved strong results in Chinese language courses. My lessons are particularly suitable for beginner to lower-intermediate learners who would like a supportive and structured approach to learning Mandarin.
