About Samuel
My name is Samuel, I have always loved history and wanted to be a teacher. I received my bachelors in Classical Civilizations from UNC Asheville, and my masters in Roman History and Archaeology from the University of Kent Canterbury. I have a deep love and understanding of history and I greatly enjoy sharing that with other people. If you are struggling understanding a history, social studies, or other course in the humanities I am more than happy to help.
I also have extensive experiences with AP history courses and studied under the chairman of the AP history grading board.

History isn't about names and dates, its about stories and why people made the choices they did in the past. Once you understand that remembering the order of dates and names is as easy as doing it for your favorite book or tv show. I encourage students to treat learning history as a discussion and investigation rather than memorization. This helps students grasp the deeper themes and ideas that teachers and graders look for in essays and AP exams.
A typical lesson with me starts with asking the student what they already know about a subject. This opens a discussion, and shows the student that they already know more than they think. Then I'll lay out the context and content of the lesson and encourage the student to think creatively and draw conclusions from the information. This allows the lesson to flow like a discussion so that I can help fill in the information the student is struggling with. When you have to use information to form your own conclusions the knowledge is easier to contextualize and remember.
I'm also experienced with approaches to help those with ADHD, Dyslexia, and other types of neurodivergence.
My specialty is in ancient European and Mediterranean history. I am knowledgeable about most periods of world history, and am well versed in most of the the social sciences.
