About Dana

I am a 3rd year BA (Hons) English Studies student at the University of Stirling. I completed my National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher exams with A grades and aspire to help others achieve to the best of their ability. While studying for my Advanced Higher qualification in English, I tutored pupils in National 5 and Higher and helped them to achieve high grades. I also have experience working in classrooms with primary-aged children and I can use differentiation to help each individual learn in a way that is appropriate for them at any level. I'm very passionate about education and literature and I aim to help students to comprehensively understand the subject as well as to appreciate the texts they are studying.

About the lesson

I like to begin by speaking with the students about their skills and areas for improvement so we can identify our focus areas and targets. Using these targets, as well as my knowledge of the curriculum, I collaborate with the students to establish a plan of lessons that accommodates the individual. My primary goal during lessons is to help students perform well in their exams by developing the required skills such as close reading, essay planning and writing, and folio writing (discursive, reflective, and creative). We will focus on one of these skills in each session and more attention will be given to the areas which the student identifies as weaker. These skills are essential for students to achieve highly in SQA English exams, but will also help them to expand their understanding of literature and ability to think critically. This will prove beneficial as students progress through school and higher education.
