About Ashley
Hi there! I’m originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but now call sunny San Diego home. I studied Genetics & Genomics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison (with a minor in art and a minor in dance) and spent three years working in a developmental biology lab studying the underlying genetic mechanisms driving lung development. After graduating in 2020, I earned my Master’s in Individualized Genomics & Health from Johns Hopkins while working in the Neuroscience Research Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin, studying various aspects of the endocannabinoid system. When I moved to San Diego, I worked as a biology scientist with Leidos, contributing to projects for the Department of Defense that supported public health and national security. Outside the lab, I love to draw, paint, and spend time outdoors. Now, I’m excited to bring my passion for both science and creativity into teaching—helping students not only succeed in their studies, but also discover how fascinating biology can be!

My teaching style is visual, interactive, and tailored to each student’s needs. With years of experience creating scientific illustrations for research publications, presentations, and patient education, I specialize in breaking down complex biological and genetic concepts into clear, memorable visuals. This approach helps students not just memorize, but truly understand the material.
A typical lesson begins with identifying the student’s goals (exam prep, class support, or deeper subject mastery). I then introduce concepts step by step, using diagrams, analogies, and real-world examples. Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout, and we’ll work through practice problems together to solidify understanding.
My lessons are ideal for high school students, undergraduates, or early graduate students studying biology, genetics, molecular biology, or biotechnology. Whether you’re tackling an introductory biology course or advanced genetics, I’ll help you gain confidence and succeed.
