• Did you grow up speaking this language? Or were you inspired by a trip abroad, an individual or a certain aspect of the culture?

  I grew up in Colombia where we speak Spanish.

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  To me, the novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez. He was a very important author in Colombia and Latin America, particularly in the Spanish language. He also left a great legacy to our culture.

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or expression in the language that you particularly like?

  It is difficult to answer this question, because every culture has many expressions in their own language. Mine for example:
  BACANO which means good or excellent, although used in a very informal way.
  Tradition: To make arepas. This is Considered as an icon of Colombian gastronomy, it is usually consumed at breakfast, but it can be eaten at any time of the day as a part of the main food or as a snack. Arepa is a food made from corn in a circular and flattened shape.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Because Spanish is my native language. I always feel comfortable speaking my own language and expressing myself in Spanish. Also, I am happy helping people to learn it.

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  If you want to learn a new language, either Spanish or another one, it's not just learning the grammar and vocabulary, it's living the language and interacting with people who speak it, either because you want to get involved in a conversation or you just want to travel. So, to help in the process of learning Spanish I will encourage people to practice speaking and thinking in the Spanish language way.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  To learn a new language is alway an interesting way to learn about cultures. So the way you think one word means in your own language has a completely different meaning in another language, this always will be a very interesting and funny way of learning a new language.

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Based on my experience, when I learnt a second language it was traveling to a place where that language is spoken, so it is one of the best ways to improve my fluency. By immersing myself in the language and culture, I got to practice the language in the most natural way possible.
